    Spider-Man: Brand New Day Review

Is this Tom Holland’s best performance as Spider-Man yet? Honestly, I think it might be. I meant to write this review weeks ago right after I saw it, but life got in the way and I’m only just sitting down to get my thoughts out now. Better late than never, right?

Keeping this mostly spoiler-free, but a few minor details ahead!

Tom Holland genuinely carries this film on his back. Moving away from the high school trilogy vibe, he plays a much more grounded, isolated Peter Parker, and the emotional weight really shows in his performance. You can feel the toll the ending of No Way Home took on him. It’s easily his most refined and mature portrayal of Spidey to date – he nails the quiet, lonely moments just as well as the heroic ones.

The supporting cast brings some fantastic additions to the mix, too. Sadie Sink is brilliant here, adding a really interesting, complex dynamic that shifts the usual Spider-Man formula. And then there’s Jon Bernthal, as the Punisher, who brings that signature intensity and gritty edge to every single scene he’s in. The interactions between Holland and the new additions feel fresh and give the movie a completely different energy compared to his previous solo films.

Story-wise, the film feels like it was ripped straight out of a classic comic book run. It leans far more into a mature tone, trading in a lot of the usual quips and lighter laughs for a story that carries actual stakes and weight. It’s a welcome direction for the character, though I did feel the narrative lost a bit of momentum towards the end of the third act. It drags slightly right before the climax, but it doesn’t ruin the overall ride.

Where the movie absolutely peaks, though, is the action. The set pieces and fight choreography are incredible, and if you’ve played the Marvel’s Spider-Man console games, you’ll pick up on the heavy inspiration right away. The movement, web-swinging, and combat flow feel strikingly similar to the games in the best way possible – fast, cinematic, and seamless.

    The Verdict

A mature, punchy reset that trades teenage quips for real weight, proving Tom Holland’s Spidey is best when he’s pushed to his limits.

    Rating: 4 out of 5.
